DOG ATTACKS

The Minnesota dog bite law is favorable to dog bite victims. It covers bites and other injuries. Minnesota has a strict liability statute, meaning that it is irrelevant whether or not the owner of the dog knew or should have known that the dog might attack. An injured person need only prove that he or she was bitten by the dog while lawfully on the premises and that they were not provoking the dog to attack. The Minnesota statute applies not only to the owner of the dog, but also to the person or persons who harbor or keeps the dog; the owner is primarily liable.

Dog owners have a responsibility to protect others from attacks from a vicious dog. Owners who fail to train their animals correctly or allow it to roam outside of an enclosed area put others at risk. Dog bite injuries can be severe, resulting in scarring, disfigurement, infection, muscular damage, and even death. Children are particularly vulnerable victims when a dog attacks.
